Kia ora!

I'm Barbara, a New Zealand writer and artist working from my home studio in Auckland. I work primarily in coloured pencil, a medium I enjoy for its vibrancy and capacity for rendering fine detail.

A realist at heart, my work reflects a love of texture and a desire to capture and celebrate the inherent beauty of everyday moments.

I studied illustration at the Chisholm Institute in Melbourne but for the most part I am a self-taught artist. My work has been featured in 'CP Treasures 7: Colored Pencil Masterworks from Around the Globe' and on the cover of the Aotearoa Artist Magazine.

I am currently taking commissions for portraits of pets and people.

If you are interested in commissioning a bespoke artwork for yourself, or as a gift for a loved one, I would love to hear from you and help bring your vision to life.

You will find some helpful information about how to proceed here, and you are very welcome to contact me to discuss your vision further.

PS: You can follow this link if you'd like a little glimpse into my origin story as showcased in the Aotearoa Artist's Magazine:

Spoiler alert; it involves no radioactive spider bites, no falling into any vats of radioactive sludge, and no being abducted by radioactive slug people - sadly. Any one of those things would have made for a way cooler backstory.

Thanks for stopping by!
